Blueberry history
and culture technique
Quebec’s blueberry production in highbush is quite recent. Initiated in the 60s, it kept growing as well as its popularity. This interest is easy to understand since this "highbush blueberry" combines great taste and health benefits.
Its fruits grow in grape on bushes making them easy for picking while standing. They are also prolific. These blueberries are available in several varieties and the fruits production spread over a period of about six weeks. It’s not surprising that they are called "highbush blueberries", since some varieties of highbush blueberries are 2 to 3 times larger than wild blueberries. Their diameter can reach that of a $2 coin!
In the world ranking of blueberry production, Canada ranks second after the United States. By themselves, these two countries accounted for almost 90% of world blueberry production. With regard to Quebec, it is the largest producer of wild blueberries.
